There are many successful people in this world. And many will tell you the various paths they took to become who they are, how hard it was to push through, and the many long nights there were. But one sacrifice they have in common is the routine. To some, building a routine was not hard because they were always that type of person, everyone is different. And if you're like me then it was hard giving up the morning laziness for an early run, then off to get the day started. It's hard to believe that changing your routine will simply put you in a better position to receive success.
Have you ever heard the early bird gets the worm. Ugh I hate that saying cause I'm not an early person. I hate the mornings, I'm more of a night owl being in the hospitality industry for so long. I'd rather sleep in and work all night. But the world doesn't operate on a 4pm to 3am time frame. We wake early for 7am tee times, with 5am runs and 8am board meetings. Lunch is at noon and the conference call with the buyers is promptly at 3pm and we're in traffic by 5:30. This is the world, and when you realize this, it’s time to get organized. A routine is basically organizing your regular procedure of actions to be carried out daily.
It sounds easy, write a schedule follow it. But it's not. It takes so much discipline to do that. Keeping your goals in mind helps you on stay on track but there will be distractions. Yes, we are human and we will fall, but we have the ability to get up and keep going. You keep going by being accountable. Write down your schedule. Mark it off as you go, keep reminders on your phone or tablet to keep you abreast on what's coming up next. Keep yourself accountable by engaging family, friends and coworkers so they know what your goals are and able to keep you on track.
Keeping your head in the game. You're not missing out on anything! There's a time and place for everything. Work is the main focus during work hours. Restrain from your distractions, rather it be social media,YouTube, television, Google, video games, etc. Whatever your vice is restrain from it during business hours. Then after your tasks are complete, you’re well within your right to engage. Lately, social media is your business so make yourself a social media schedule to make sure you're on top of what sites you should be on, and when or what you should be doing.
Remember Rome wasn't built in a day so give yourself time. The night before you start write down what needs to be accomplished for that day and the time frame to get it done, set your reminders and go. Do that every night, that way your routine stays fresh and could never be mundane! Life is about having fun and being spontaneous but business is about getting things done in a timely manner and time is money so there's no time to waste. It’s your life, do all you can with it. Organize your time and make it the life you want to live!
